What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name Service)
is a means by which you are able to type in an easily
remembered name in order to go to the URL that you wish,
instead of trying to remember an IP address.
Does it cost anything
for me to register for a domain name with GetSite?
This
question has two parts:
- If you chose to just transfer
your domain to GETSITE, then no, there will be absolutely
no charges for your domain name.
- If you chose to sign up
for a new domain name you have to register it with Internic
first. However, if you need us to do it for you we can
for a minimal charge. Please keep in mind that Internic
charges $70US dollars to purchase the domain for two
years, at the end of the two years you will be required
to pay a renewal fee of $35US dollars. NOTE!!
This charge is separate from any charges you will incurr
from GetSite.
It is highly stressed at
this point (because of numerous misunderstandings) that
this is a charge from Internic and NOT a charge from
GetSite. But there will (registering a new domain)
or may (transferring a domain) be charges due to Internic
and possibly your previous hosting company. You are
responsible for these charges and should contact the
company assigning the charges directly as to their nature.
What
is Internic?
Does
GetSite host anything other than top level (.com .org
.net and .edu) domains?
Yes, we also host .to domains. Although these domains
cannot be purchased through Internic. Also in the future
we have plans to host .nu .ca and other overseas domains
We do not now, nor do we
have plans to host .ml .org subdomains. We offer our
own free subdomains.
Why
would I want a .to domain? What are the benefits?
If you
have checked recently to see if a domain name you want
is available then you know that all the good ones are
already gone. .to domains are international domains
that will work anywhere in the world just like the other
ones that you are familiar with and they have plenty
to choose from. If the domain you want is not available
then try the .to domains.
For more detailed information on the .TO
domains please follow this
link.
How
do I get the DNS for my already registered domain set
up with GetSite?
You would simply use the
transfer option on the join pages. Once
the domain is transfered to GetSite's DNS servers, simply
go to http://www.GetSite.net/ to complete the setup
of your domain.
How
do I check on the status of my domain transfer?
My
Domain, according to Internic,
has been transfered to GetSite, but the DNS is still not
resolving. What do I do?
